PRESS RELEASE

Frederick students participate in an interactive Soft Skills seminar for the fourth year in a row

Frederick University’s mission is to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to ensure a successful start to their career and ongoing work experience.

The Department of Maritime Transport and Commerce (DMTC) offers undergraduates, postgraduates, and professionals programmes to prepare students to meet the future in maritime and commerce leadership roles.

In 2018 discussions with its Advisory Board and future employers, the DMTC recognised the need for soft skills development, to ensure students are well-rounded and prepared for entering the industry and fulfilling their roles effectively.

In the summer of 2019, the first Soft Skills seminar was designed and facilitated by Muriel Matta, Founder and Owner of Maravilhosa. Muriel is an active HR Advisor, Coach, Trainer, and Facilitator, whose vision is to help organizations build high-performing teams.  This ground-breaking initiative is a critical element of training and development at an early stage of the young generation’s professional path.

The key objective is to inform students about the various workplace and career challenges and equip them with practical skills aimed at developing their communication and teamwork.

Offered every summer, the 4th annual soft skills seminar has been successfully delivered in June 2022 by DMTC and facilitated by Muriel Matta. The students participated in interactive simulation-based learning, engaging in role play providing a hands-on experience of working in an organization.

DMTC continues to provide this seminar to deliver on the commitment to produce competent professionals with adaptive skills and character, able to work and succeed in the highly competitive business environment of the global marketplace.
