HOW TO LEAD YOUR LIFE AND YOUR TEAM IN 2025
When you learn to lead yourself, you realise it requires patience, empathy, and mostly self-awareness, to understand your habits, your fears, and your expectations. This exercise will prepare you to lead others and to build a high-performing team.
Start by listening to what your team members have to say, and I don’t mean when you ask a question or when you expect feedback, or a report. Listen daily to their every statement, what they say and what they don’t say, and communicate clearly with each one of them.
Be curious about what drives you and what drives others around you. Make your dreams come true and help others fulfil their goals. If you cannot help them, be transparent about it.
Include your team members in decisions that affect their life and the organisation they are dedicated to. Being a leader also means you invite others to add value and to share what they think.
Make time to get to know the people around you, and to appreciate who they are, not just what they can do for you. Spend meaningful time with your internal and external customers. Building and maintaining relationships is paramount to success.
Not every obstacle is a problem or a dead-end road. Sometimes, obstacles are life’s way of helping you build new skills, testing your resolve, and refining your patience.
Patience, flexibility, and consistency are your key words for 2025. When planning, consider that anything can go wrong, and sometimes everything falls through. Be flexible, learn to adapt, and start over again. Coach your team to be patient when expecting results. There is no shortcut to gaining much-needed experience.
Stay humble because no matter where you are on life’s ladder, you still know nothing about life. And everything can change in an instant. Keep learning at every opportunity. Brainstorm together with your team, to draw the lessons from your successes and from your failures.
Embrace discipline in all areas of your life. It can be difficult to break comfortable habits, but discipline enables you to be grounded. It builds your confidence and helps you grow, while inspiring your team to value discipline and consistency.
Ironically, change is here to stay. There will always be changes in your life and in your organisation. People change, circumstances change, and organisations change. Understand the root of resistance and stay true to your vision.
Know your values, ensure these align with your organisation’s core values, and hire people who are in alignment with it. This is often an underestimated key aspect of organisational success.
Lastly, make time to exercise and to lead a healthy lifestyle. Choose an activity you enjoy, and keep at it regularly. You will relieve your stress, build resilience, and inspire others around you to take care of their most valuable asset.
Thanks for reading and my best wishes to you for a successful new year. Make the best of it.
